Class Fourteen

Onions on Toned Paper, Part II, Techniques

In this lesson, I will go over some of the techniques you can use to draw your onions on toned paper. Since this is the first time we are using conte, I will demonstrate how to work with this material. I will also discuss where the values occur as we render the onions on toned paper where value #3 is given.

Please continue working on your drawing of 2 Onions on Toned Paper. This is considered our second session on the project. You will have one more session to complete and hand in. Feel free to email me your drawing-in-progress and I will be happy to help you out.

Completed drawing of 2 Onions.
Last semester, we drew Gourds. Here is a student example. Nice feeling of reflected light in the shadows. Paper is between red and white conte.
This student used the stump to make some transitions on the shadow side only.
Here is a drawing on brown craft paper like a shopping bag if you do not have the sheet I handed out. Nice feeling of illumination with the white conte.
