Class Twenty Two

The Final- Requirements

The final is our last Project. In this final you will demonstrate what you have learned in this class by drawing a still-life in pencil with specific requirements. You will demonstrate your knowledge of value, pencil technique, perspective, composition, comparisons and the 4 basic strategies to draw an object. You need some version of these objects:

  • 1 box
  • 1 bottle or can that has an ellipse
  • 1 onion
  • 1 apple

If you do not have an apple or an onion you may substitute for another organic object, i.e. a different piece of fruit/vegetable.

You will be graded on:

  1. Following directions (1 pt)
  2. Successfully applying the knowledge and skills you have learned in class (2 pt)
  3. The techniques you exhibit to render the forms (2 pt)

Assignment

Materials:

  • 18 x 24 pad, held horizontally or vertically
  • Pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Gum eraser
  • Comparison stick
  • Drawing board

Final Project

Create a still life using the following objects:

  • 1 box
  • 1 ellipse- bottle or can
  • 1 onion
  • 1 apple

These skills must be evident in your drawing:

  1. You must use comparisons, vertical, horizontal and proportional.
  2. You must render each object in 5 values using the proper pencil technique. Including the table top and background.
  3. The box must be in 1 pt. or 2 pt. perspective depending on your view point.
  4. The bottle/can must be accurate. Draw them freely at first, then correct the ellipses if necessary. Refer to lessons if you need assistance.

Upload the completed Final Project to the assignment section.

T/TH and M/W, Due: There will be no extensions on the Final.

Secondly, Please watch the last Technique video/Questions: “Making a Livelier Drawing”. Due: M/W, T/TH, Due:

This image has 2 apples rather than 1 apple and 1 onion. But this is the basic set-up for your still-life. This is drawn in charcoal rather than pencil. Drawing and perspective are excellent.
This final was completed in class and is more elaborate than your assignment. Note the range of 5 values. Nice technique. This was drawn in charcoal rather than pencil, but you can see the effort put into this project.
